Friare Liv – for those who want to live and work with more presence, responsibility and freedom

At Friare Liv, we’ve spent over 30 years exploring what it means to live and work with awareness, choice, and connection — with ourselves, with others, and with the systems we’re part of.

Our work is mainly based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We see it not just as a method, but as a living practice. For us, it’s about staying present with complexity, expressing what truly matters, and listening beyond what divides — to create real choices, even in situations that seem stuck.

We’re also inspired by Integral Theory and adult development frameworks, especially those exploring how people grow in how they make sense of themselves and the world over time. These perspectives help us see both individuals and groups as dynamic – always evolving in relationship to their context.

Since 1999, we’ve been offering courses, yearlong programs, and mediation — both public and within organisations. We’ve worked with people in leadership, in conflict, in transition – always with the intention to make space for something more honest, more human, and more sustainable to emerge.

Since 2013, we have also served as official mediators for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in Sweden and Norway, supporting dialogue where perspectives differ sharply – often involving forests, land use, Indigenous rights, environmental concerns and economic interests.

In 2002, we started our publishing house after realising that key NVC literature wasn’t available in Swedish. Our first publication was Nonviolent Communication – A Language of Life by Marshall Rosenberg. Since then, we’ve published over 40 books, many by Liv Larsson, and several have been translated into English, German, Polish, Estonian, Finnish, and Dutch.

Friare Liv AB currently consists of two core people, and we regularly collaborate with others in our network. We don’t see ourselves as experts with the answers — more like fellow travellers, curious about the questions many of us are living with:
How do we live with integrity in a complex world?
How do we build trust where there’s conflict?
How do we grow — without losing connection?

We’ve had the privilege to work in many parts of the world — from the UN and peace networks in Asia, to trauma-informed organisations and dialogue initiatives in Europe and beyond.

If you share our interest in living and leading with more presence, clarity and care — we’d love to connect. You’re warmly welcome to explore our trainings, or read one of our books.
